Brookwood Aquaponics

Brookwood Aquaponics
Watch:

If you've driven past Brookwood High School recently, you may have noticed trees cleared out near the horseshoe entrance and new structures going up. Naturally, many people have wondered what's being built.

The answer isn't new classrooms or offices. Brookwood High School is adding greenhouse space connected to a hands-on student program known as Brookwood Aquaponics.

Hands-On Learning

Brookwood Aquaponics is part of the school's Natural Resource Management program. The course counts as both a fourth-year science class and a career and technical education credit.

Students learn by doing. They grow plants, manage environmental conditions, monitor systems, and learn how sustainable agriculture works in real-world settings rather than only from a textbook.

Why It Matters Around Brookwood

When students sell what they grow, including at local farmers markets, the money earned goes back into the program to help pay for supplies and keep it running. This creates a full learning loop that connects classroom work with real outcomes.

For families living near Brookwood High School and across Lawrenceville, Snellville, and Lilburn, this program is a practical example of career-focused learning happening right on campus.
